learn guitar notes string
What is the difference between these notes on the guitar?

It says with E, that you leave the string open, also for B, also for G,D,A, then E again. It has the notes paired in sections of: notes on the first string, second and third, all I understand is that I put my finger on a certain fret on one string to play a note. But the first note on each string is open which means they would all be the same, please help my guitar teacher is never around! don’t make it too complicated either I know very little please help! I wanna learn!!!

The guitar standard tuning (starting from the highest or 1st string to the lowest or 6th string) is E B G D A E. Any time you play one of those strings in the open position it sounds its corresponding note.

Now, without going too far into music theory, a chord is just multiple notes played at the same time. The type of cord depends on what notes are played. For an E major cord the notes are E G# B. So… looking at the neck of the guitar:

1st string open position – E How convenient.

2nd string open position – B How convenient.

3rd string open position – G Bummer, not a part of the cord. However, if you put you finger in the first fret it becomes a G#.

4th string open position – D Bummer, not a part of the cord. However, if you put your finger in the second fret it becomes an E.

5th string open position – A Bummer, not a part of the cord. However, if you put your finger in the second fret it becomes a B.

6th string open position E – How convenient.

Play all of those notes together and you have a wonderful E major cord.
